Hopton Pic

The early history of Hopton Castle is not well documented. It is known that a timber fortress existed there in the 1140s. It was rebuilt with stone walls and keep, probably in the 1270s.

The castle played a more prominent role during the English Civil War. The castle held for Parliament and was placed under seige by the Royalists in 1644. The castle came under heavy cannon fire; the garrison surrendered after three weeks and were executed by the victors. The castle was never reoccupied and is said to be haunted by the ghosts of the executed garrison.

My reconstruction of Hopton Castle is 25 inches long, 20 inches wide (80 x 64 studs) and is about 18 inches high.
