Wood was the primary fuel in the Middle
Ages. All heating, cooking, metal and
glass working, and pottery depended upon a
reliable suppy of wood or charcoal. And
charcoal is made from wood. The man who
went into the forest to gather firewood
was an important part of the medieval
economy.

In order to get the sides wide enough,
I built the cart with the bricks upside
down.
|
|
A close-up of the inside shows how the
sides are attached. The studs in the
bracket are attached at the circles on the
bottom of the plate, rather than between
them, where they would normally be
attached. This allowed me to get the sides
closer to the edge of the plate.

I have arranged some bricks to show how
the sides and the seat are constructed.

Now that the photos have been taken,
the woodcutter can get back to work!
