The cam which powers the hammer can be
seen in the background. The hammer
rises and falls four times with each turn of the
waterwheel.
A conventional anvil and hammer are
still used for detail work.
The bellows for the furnace is driven by
a crank at the end of the shaft. The floor
above has holes to allow maintenance of the
mechanism.
The top floor has living quarters for
the apprentices. The master smith
has his own house in the village.
