Castle Rising was built by William d'Aubigny shortly after 1138 in Norfolk, England. Although designed as a fortress, the building was more of a palace with decorative stonework and large windows. In the 14th Century, the castle became the home of Queen Isabella after her fall from power. Castle Rising consists of a stone keep surrounded by extensive earthworks. The keep is three floors high with turrets at each corner and a forebuilding with a long staircase leading to the great hall. The castle was renovated in the 14th Century when another floor was added to the forebuilding. |
My reconstruction of Castle Rising represents its appearance before renovations in the 14th Century. It is 30 inches long, 20 inches wide (96 x 64 studs) and is about 18 inches high. For more photos of my reconstruction of Castle Rising
